Meet Our Judges

For almost as long as I can remember now Cavaliers have been part of my life and I cannot envisage ever being without them.
As a child growing up I was crazy about animals and had my fair share of pets over the years, I was also very interested in horse riding and had my own pony for several years before school work had to take priority. I bought my first Cavalier back in 1973 having seen a picture of one in a book and decided this was the dog I must have; we had a faithful mongrel called Buster at that time as well.
I saved up the money from a summer job and bought my first Cavalier, a B&T quite unusual here at that time. I had no intention of showing but I discovered he was well bred and was a handsome dog, although never really trained for the show ring. I started to show him when he was 4 and had some success at the Open Shows and the rest as they say is history as I had caught the show bug!
I acquired my first bitches from Mrs Pam Thornhill's Kindrum Kennel and the Connors' Ronnoc kennel in Southern Ireland. After studying breed type these were the Cavaliers that appealed to me at the time and I was lucky to acquire two bitches both of which did so well in the show ring one becoming UK/Ir Ch Kindrum Rose Red and Ir Ch Ronnoc Scarlet Ribbons. I always had a soft spot for the Wholecolours and feel proud to have made up the first champions in Ireland. Some years later Ir Ch Ringcreevy Ringlets, sired by Ch Rheinvelt Ringold Von became the first B&T bitch Ch and did a lot of winning at the UK shows too.
I have been fortunate to make up a number of champions over the years but breeding for me has always been on a small scale working full time and I usually only breed a litter when I want something to show. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that it is better to stick with the type you like rather than rushing to the latest winner who may be fashion of the month.
I have judged extensively since the early eighties officiating in the US on quite a number of occasions as well as Australia and New Zealand and the Scandinavian countries and I very much look forward to judging the Parent Club Cavalier Club show in the UK in 2013.
I look forward to judging for the Central Arizona Cavalier Club in 2012 and it is always a pleasure and an honour to judge good dogs and share our mutual enthusiasm for the breed.

I first became involved with Cavaliers in 1995. It took months of searching and researching before I was able to acquire my first , Lucy, who was also my first AKC champion. PJ ( Ch Excalibur Pearl Jam ROM ) followed shortly after and became the foundation of my breeding program. I was taught, by mentor Jeanne Sardo, to find the look I liked and how to achieve it in my own line. I was fortunate to have had several successful Ravenrush dogs made available to me and used them to set my type. I've produced more than 40 champions most of which have been owner handled, including breeder/owner/handled BISS Ch St Jon Short Circuit and GCH St Jon Fire And Ice who earned his grand championship at nearly 13 yrs of age. In addition to conformation success I have bred dogs who have taken High In Trial at the National Specialty as well as MACH achievement in agility. I've been known to provide ring side entertainment when it comes to showing puppies because we "play" show dog. Spectators have enjoyed viewing pirouettes, air borne fly bys, fleet footed springs and on occasion, the flat out refusal to move off the mat!
