Our April club meeting was held April 28, 2007 in Scottsdale with great attendance and participation. A 2-1/2 hour presentation was given by Dr. Whit Church on heart disease in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. His presentation included many detailed graphics that were appreciated by all. Dr. Whit Church, DVM, of Animal Veterinary Specialists is the only veterinary cardiologist practicing full-time in Arizona and we are grateful for the vital information that he gave to the many club members and prospective members who attended. November's Club Meeting
Club members enjoyed a great cavalier specific obedience seminar presented by TEAM CANINE in Phoenix.

Tamara & Brad Jaffee of TEAM CANINE are Nationally Certified Pet Dog Trainers through the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. They are also the on-air trainers for Mollie, the canine "co-host" of Your Life A-Z television show at 9:00am weekdays on Channel 3 in Phoenix, Az. They have also been featured on Channel 5 and Channel 15 in Phoenix, Az and written about in the Arizona Republic, The Scottsdale Times, The North Scottsdale Times and the Gilbert Times newspapers. The Jaffees believe that communication is the key to stopping unacceptable behavior and creating a well mannered dog.

"Understanding how dogs think and communicate allows us to create a mutually respectful and loving partnership with our companions. Give your dog the opportunity to learn in the right environment with the right cues and he/she will be able to fulfill their destiny as man's best friend. As much as we would like to believe that our dogs think like we do, they have very different cognitive abilities and communication skills. Not better or worse, just different. Bridging the communication gap between you and your pup is the key to forming a long lasting and mutually beneficial partnership. There is no need to physically dominate or use any sort of physical force to train your dog. Through a psychological approach you can establish proper roles, acceptable and un-acceptable behavior all with love and understanding. Using the natural forms of communication that all pack animals use with each other, training can be quick, easy and most importantly painless."

October Meeting & Activity

Our October Club Meeting & Agility Demonstration & Lesson was held on October 14th at Pomeroy Elementary School in Chandler. The agility demonstration and lesson was given by Good Dog Agility Club.
In spite of an early morning rain (which luckily ended prior to the event), we had good turnout and participation. We were able to try out the agility equipment with our dogs and everyone, including spectators, had a great time.
Our sincere thanks to Good Dog Agility Club for their assistance. We would also like to thank Kelly Collins, D.V.M. for the donation of her time for our 2nd MicroChip Clinic. Thanks to all who participated in this meeting and clinic, it was great!

The CKCSC of Central Arizona held its second AKC-sanctioned "B" Match and a Microchip Clinic in recognition of AKC's "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" on September 9, 2006 at Paradise Valley Park. The microchip clinic was successful, and in spite of some stormy weather at the start, the B match was well attended. The rain stopped, the sun peaked out of the clouds, and club members enjoyed a great puppy match with some awesome prizes!

July Club Meeting

Our July 29th meeting was well attended. The club members enjoyed a wonderful presentation on Canine Structure and Cavalier Breed Type. Especially enjoyable was a slide show from the Judges Breed Seminar. A summary of the National Shows was appreciated by all and reinforced all of the participants' desires to attend next year's National Shows. As always we enjoyed the opportunity to meet our prospective members and socialize with our cavalier friends.

Cavalier Photo Day!

On April 29th we all enjoyed a great social event! Our members (and many prospective members and friends) enjoyed a day at Agua Linda Park in Scottsdale with our pets. We were honored to have our own fellow club member, Shelly Rae Fields, of Field of Dreams Pet Photography take awesome pictures of our cavaliers. Thank you Shelly for the great service and fundraiser event for our club!

 March 18th Club Meeting

We enjoyed an obedience presentation as part of our general meeting on March 18th. The event was held at Paradise Valley Park A BBQ-beef lunch was provided and enjoyed by all in spite of the colder, windy weather. Many members and prospective members were in attendance. (Any cavalier can participate in obedience competition, even if they have been spayed or neutered). Even if you don't plan on competing in obedience you may be interested in obedience training -- an obedient dog is always more welcome with friends & family! It is always a thrill to meet each of you and your beloved cavaliers! A Club meeting was held immediately following the obedience presentation.

AKC SANCTIONED "B" Match February 2006

On Sunday, February 26th, 2006 we held our first Cavalier Club AKC SANCTIONED "B" Match in the state at Paradise Valley Park. It was a great success!
